Night Moves

In my summer “Wild Wonders” column (Tideland magazine), I celebrate the unsung heroines of our regional forests and night skies: bats!

On a recent vacation in Santa Fe, I savored a margarita topped with salted lime foam. The festive experience gave me yet another reason to appreciate bats. As pollinators of blue agave plants, Mexico’s bats are central to tequila production.

Check out the excellent summer issue of Tideland in its entirety, and purchase a copy of Niki Desautels’s book, For the Love of Bats, through Moutaineers Books.
